I hope everyone had a great mid winter break. We had lots of kids travel as well as stay home and do fun things!
This week at bear club the kids participated in a cookie bake off! We had different kind of cookies that they made from scratch. I gave them all their ingredients in a bowl and told them to have at it. They had to figure out how much of each ingredient they needed in order to make their cookies. They did a great job! All the cookies turned out amazing. After we baked the cookies and let them cool, we let them frost and decorate their cookies. Cookies are always so much better when you add frosting! The kids had such a blast, I loved seeing the kids work well in teams and see who stepped up to take the lead. We have some pretty amazing kids here at bear club! :)
We did a science experiment that ended with a chemical reaction. The reaction wasn't as big as we were hoping but the kids thought it was the coolest thing! Elephant toothpaste is an experiment with dish soap, food coloring, yeast, a strong hydrogen peroxide and water. if you mix yeast with hydrogen peroxide, the hydrogen peroxide will rapidly break down into water and oxygen gas. The oxygen gas forms bubbles. These bubbles would usually escape from the liquid and pop quickly. But adding a little dish soap provides additional surface tension, allowing the bubbles to get trapped and creating lots of foam. Pictures and video to come!
