And Just Like That November Is Over

11/30/2018

Good morning and happy Friday BLMS families! Can you believe that we are already working our way into December?! It feels like just yesterday I was meeting some of your students for the first time. But I guess time flies when we're having fun!

As the seasons start to change so have the types of activities our kids are going to. Our kids have found a new love in the art of finger knitting.

Because the kids have been making so many scarfs this week, I was lucky enough to acquire myself this bad boy right here. But any where you look these days, you can count on yarn being somewhere in the room.

Here is just one corner of our portable...

In other news, this week we also broke out our model magic and modeling clay and made some friendly food!! (and a sun too)

Today with weather permitting we will do our monthly walking field trip to Starbucks and also try to develop our very own impromptu Frisbee golf course! Come on by and we can toss some discs!

Happy Thanksgiving!

11/21/2018

Hello and a happy Wednesday to you all! As you all know we have had a short week this week due to all the festivities of tomorrow and the days that follow! Because it has been such a short week we only have a few things to mention from earlier this week.

You may or may not have heard about this, but this past Sunday was the 90th anniversary of Steamboat Willie and Mickey Mouse! Can you believe it?! That mouse turned 90 this week!

In honor of Mickey and Disney, on Monday, we decided to break out anything and everything Disney. WE played Scene it: Disney, ran a few games of Disney Codenames, and even got started on a few puzzles! All in all it was a Disney filled day!

On Tuesday we headed outside for some freezing cold flag football! It always surprises me how little clothing these kids can wear in the winter and be content. While that was going on outside, a few of us on the inside were playing some Thanksgiving themed Bingo!

Today was supposed to be our November Birthday Celebration where all of our students with birthday's in this month get to choose the days activity. We were surprised to find out we don't have any students with November birthdays! With that new information today we are doing a mystery surprise day!

In other news.... If you read our last blog post Mr. Steven had the brilliant idea to plant seeds to flowers that will germinate in the winter and be ready to move in spring... It turns out Mr. Steven knows nothing about growing flowers and they are all starting to bloom this week. He has no where to put them and has not figured out a plan yet.

The Cold Hasn't Stopped Us Yet

11/16/2018

Happy Friday BLMS families! Today is a very special day because it is time for our monthly field trip! This time we decided to let our students get together and decide where they want to go this month. Our kids came together and as a group decided they wanted to go see Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grinedlwald! Surprisingly enough that is the same field trip all the other Impact groups chose to see as well!

As always, I wanted to share one of our favorite activities from this week! I couldn't wait until spring so on Tuesday we had our first gardening club of the year! I know what you are thinking...Mr. Steven, its too cold to start growing anything, and you'd be right. But that won't stop me from trying! We decided to get a few succulents and transplant them into freshly decorated pots!

We also gout ourselves a green house starter kit where we planted over 100 seeds from different wild flowers. We are hoping that they slowly germinate and grow through the winter and hopefully transplant them outside by spring!

No Starbucks Is Too Far For Us.

11/9/2018

Another week going into the record books! Despite some flu bug flying around that took down our staff this week, we were lucky enough to add Mr. Stephen to our morning program! Not only is Mr. Stephen a returning BASC veteran, he was also a student in the program the first year BASC was available at middle schools! If you drop off in the morning, be sure to say hello!

Here's a look at some of our other favorite activities of the week!

This week during Documentary Club we decided to put a pause on animals and Planet Earth, so we tuned in to an episode of How It's Made!

Did you know Grammy's are made of Grammium?

Last month due to staff being sick, we unfortunately had to postpone our walking field trip to Starbucks which we were finally able to do this Thursday! Mr. Steven led a group of 19 students down the trail to a group of Starbucks employees who I can only assume were not thrilled to see all of us. Our students were awesome throughout the entire trip, and I can't say for certain what every student got, but it looked a lot like this.

On Thursday we also made our very own stress balls! The plan was super simple! The most effective and easiest way we found to make them was to fill an empty water bottle about half way full of sand. Some of our kids used left over slime from a different activity, which didn't work as well but still got the job done.

Once that is done you want to lightly blow up a balloon and place it over the mouth hole of the water bottle and flip it over and fill it with a desired amount of sand. After that is complete you take off the balloon, let out the excess air and tie it off!

THE RESULTS ARE IN

11/1/2018

If you caught last weeks post, you would know that we recently held our student of the month day! We had a whole day planned by two students who went above and beyond this month. Anand decided he wanted to run a Harry Potter Trivia game for people in the main room, while Colton wanted to take on recreating an episode of Cut Throat Kitchen. In true TV fashion he decided to record all the events and threw this together... Check it out!
This has been one of the larger tasks a student has taken on by themselves and we all learned a lot from this experience! I can not wait until we do this again with some more twists!
