The Beauty Gurus Are Shook

11/21/2019

I was watching some Tik Toks a while ago and I came across a woman who started all of her videos by saying, "Hey, hi, hello" and at first I didn't like it one bit, but here I am. One week later writing about it in a blog post... Needless to say, hey, hi,hello.

I feel like I say it every week, but this week was a real blast. We kicked off the week with yet another baking competition where we made mini apple and pumpkin pies. Sometimes you just need to do fun fall things I guess.

But this is where things get wild. Yesterday we pulled out a classic activity, the blindfolded make up challenge. It's simple, a student puts on a blindfold and other students try to guide them while they blindly put make up on a staff member. Unfortunately for Mr. Ryan and myself, they wanted to do make overs for both of us.
Come on down to BLMS if you want that makeover!

We're Scientists Now!

This week was one for the books ladies and gentlemen! Starting off the week strong on Tuesday we finally busted out of massive Lego collection and started working on designing new structures which was a blast! Tuesday night was big for a lot of us with the release of Disney+ so we made some adjustments and checked out some NatGeo documentaries on Wednesday! Thursday was a winner all around, we did our first attempt of the year to make some DIY Hot Pockets, which never quite turn out they way we want - we will keep testing until its perfect.

We also went back a few years and rekindled our love for Mythbusters, and for others it was totally new to them which is always fun. After checking out an episode to get the idea we decided to try to bust some myths ourselves. In this next video we wanted to find out if you eat mentos and drink cola, will you explode??

Short answer: No.
Long answer:

November, No Problems

Happy Friday BLMS friends and familes and welcome back to the BLMS Impact Blog! This week we had our first official meeting for our upcoming Oscars movie later this year! As this is the beginning of the process we are throwing around a lot of ideas and our kids want to keep it all under wraps until they are ready to show off the new film. We hope you understand.

This week we also got outside for a nice wilderness walk. There is something about fall and winter that makes you think  there is going to be some sort of beautiful magical experience while you are outside but really it is just cold and wet. Hopefully it looks like this soon!

But because the snow hasn't come down on us just yet we are still getting outside as often as we can until we have to bunker down for the winter!
As some of you know, we are almost always painting something over here, so here is a look at some of the newest creations you can see in the room!

Too Many Chefs In The Kitchen

Hello and happy Friday BLMS families and friends and I hope you all had a great Halloween last night! This week has been full of Halloween themed games and activities like our Spooky Canvas' and our Pumpkin drop! (much like an egg drop, but pumpkins!) I think our fan favorite had to have been the Cupcake wars, but you'll hear more of that from Jacki soon!

Before we get into anymore Halloween activities, I wanted to send out a big thank you to one of our favorite specialists Amy Anderson who came in at the end of last week and threw together one of the best cooking activities I've ever been a part of! We broke into teams of three and had ourselves a top chef pasta sauce challenge!

We all had a blast cooking with you Amy, thanks again for coming in!

October Was All About Halloween!

11/1/2019

This month we celebrated Halloween all month long! First we hosted all of the other schools for our first field trip: Halloweenapalooza! In our suggestion box we received a request to dress up like VSCO girls (pronounced vis-co).

What's a VSCO girl you might ask? I like to compare VSCO girls to the "preppy" trend of my middle school era. VSCO girls are into scrunchies, hydro flasks, metal straws, pukka shell necklaces, long crew neck sweatshirts. So we obliged the anonymous request, and we all dressed up as VSCO girls. My favorite quote from a student was "You are SO VSCO it HURTS." Mission accomplished :)
We don't have any pictures because we forgot to take one while we were running around so busy having so much fun! If any of you !MPACT-ers reading this captured some please email them to me!

Also during Halloweenapalooza one of our students, Connor, won the !MPACT wide competition for the game Gang Beasts. Gang Beasts is a super fun video game that we have described as a wrestling match between computerized play dough figurines.

Another Halloween highlight here at !MPACT was our Halloween edition of Cupcake Wars. This year we spent one day baking our own cupcakes, then on Halloween we decorated them. We had everything from orange and white themed cupcakes with candycorn and orange sprinkles in the middle, to a graveyard scene with an angry spider protecting the cupcakes. Here are some pictures of our creations!

Come check back at the end of November to see what we are into this month!
