I hope you've been enjoying the weekly updates from Ms. Nikki and Ms. Megan, highlighting all the fun activities, crafts and games we get to enjoy here at !MPACT. I will check in once a month to review some of our more exciting activities, and share with you a few that didn't actually make it on to the blog. Trust me, sometimes its tough to pick just one activity from that week to share here!
This last month, !MPACT was approached by some staff members from the school to design and create a sandwich board to stand on Evans street and remind high schoolers to drive slowly along that road. This issue is pretty important to us and the students, because as some of you remember, !MPACT had to do a lot of walking up and down that very road last year. Our students made some new spray paint stencils, and used a few of the older ones from years past, and designed the sandwich board below!
I also very much enjoyed a gym game this last month, called Balloon Frenzy. Students inflated a balloon, and then tied it too their leg, with about a foot of twine between the balloon and and their shoe. Then the frenzy began! Students chased each other around the gym, attempting to stomp onto each others balloon and pop it! Several quickly realized that a balloon hanging in mid air could not be stomped, and stood on one leg with the other pointed upward in a crazy 'karate kick' freeze frame when ever they became cornered! Other students worked to use soccer ball tricks to outmaneuver their targets and stomp them out of the competition!
This month also marked the beginning of a new year of Walking Dead RPG! A few of you may wonder when you hear your student talking about their experience at !MPACT that day, and reference scavenging for food, establishing trade routes between survivor settlements, and battling the undead. Never fear! All of this is a Role Playing Game (RPG) where the students are piloting characters in an imaginary world. The closest game that everyone would recognize is Dungeons and Dragons, except the world we are playing in is post-apocalyptic, set 10 years after the zombies devastated civilization. All of the game is done with the students imagination! If you have any questions about this RPG game, please feel free to pull me aside at pick up, I'd be happy to explain more about it.
That's it for my 'Month-in-Review'! Please feel free to bookmark this site and return frequently for updates about our fun activities and field trips throughout the year. Have a great October!
