Now that we have our portable and a lot more space, I was finally able to lead this project with the students! The kids learned how to mix and pour cement, and most importantly, how to get dirty and use a little elbow grease!
For this project, we made garden stones out of glass mosaic pieces, cement and chicken wire. The next day, we took the stones out of the cake pans and lo and behold, all of the mosaic pieces were submerged in dried cement! :( Instead of giving up, the students devised a way to scrape off the excess cement - chicken wire, water and A LOT of paper towels. In the end, a little more than half of the original stones remained intact. I will have to revise my methods for next time. The most important thing was the students had fun! Check out our pics below!
