Everyday when school ends, our goal between our staff is to make sure that every student who comes in gets an individual welcome from one of us. We try and maintain this trend in the hopes that it makes each student feel like they are part of our !mpact family. We really value the connection that students make within !mpact where they can interact with students in different classes and grades that they might not get the opportunity to during the school day. While we want to be a place where students can relax and unwind, we often find that they choose to do that in front of a screen. As a challenge, for one day only, we got rid of our Ipads and video games and asked our kiddos to put down their phones for the entire time they were at !mpact. While we of course didn't make this mandatory, all of our kiddos participated and as a sign of good faith, all the staff did the same. We had a lot of fun using the time to play board games, do simple crafts and just play outside! When we asked a few of them how they felt after the day was over, they said it was kind of nice to put their phone down for a little bit. We did have the realization half was through that we wanted to take some pictures of our day and that we couldn't which led to a fun conversation about what people used to do without cameras on their phones. Luckily our wonderful specialist Mr. O'Neill randomly popped in that day and was able to take the 2 pictures below as proof to document our tech-less ness. Make sure to check in every week to read Ms. Nikki's blogs and see what else we've been up to!
