ALL ABOUT THE KIDS @ MMS

3/12/2020

This past month we asked the Maywood students what ideas they had for our next field trip. We ended up landing on an Escape Room! MMS is all about the kids because we ask for our students' input on what activities and field trips they are interested in doing :) and we try our hardest to make it happen!

We were able to find Epic Team Adventures (ETA) in Seattle, that was able to hold our large group. How exciting! !MPACT has had Escape Room companies come on site, but we have never gotten to GO to one. We split into teams, and went into five separate rooms to escape from. All groups did a great job! Some escaped, some did not, which is okay! The experience was great. See some insider photos below, and check out our team photos (a few scrolls down) that Mr. Tyler posted a few weeks ago!

Bridge Building...Not a Disaster

3/11/2020

This week one of the projects we did was to make a working bridge for one of our RC Cars. The challenge was that the students had to go from one table to the other with only Popsicle sticks and hot glue. Well apparently they are better engineers then I thought so we had to move on to books! Check out the pictures below!

WE ESCAPED A ROOM

3/2/2020

Well some of us did at least... Friday we did an awesome field trip to Epic Team Adventures in Seattle to try out the room escapes that they had. Over all it seems like all of the students had a lot of fun. I know for my room we were stressing out over the live timer they had going. Its such a great bonding/team building experience and its great to see how the students do in stressful situations.

I have never had so much fun being so stressed out in a room of middle schoolers.

Check back again for more posts!

ALL ABOUT THE... FRIENDSGIVING

11/27/2019

We had our first family night of the school year here at MMS !MPACT!
Over the course of the month the students brainstormed their favorite side dishes, got to learn how to make those dishes, and designed the layout for the night!
We ordered the turkey that was served but everything else the students had made for their peers, and the !MPACT families to enjoy.
Friendsgiving was all about the kids because they got to plan, make, and design the whole event!
We can't wait for the next one, and hope to see you there!

Battle Bots: LETS GET READY TO RUMBLE

11/7/2019

Picture
This week we made our own battle bots! They aren't in the traditional form of battle bots but its still super fun.

The premise of the activity is that we all create our bots by attaching balloons and skewers to them so that they could ram the trucks together and try and pop the others before they pop yours.

We took Some RC Cars that had some removable tops and remade the covers to be flat so that we could attach some balloons.
Then we took some simple kitchen skewers and some Popsicle sticks for some added protection. Completing our bots we took them to the battle stadium.
Picture
The rules of battle are simple, two bots in one bot out. We have a 20 foot circle as the arena. If all 4 our your tires go out of the arena that is a loss. If their balloon pops that is a loss.

ALL ABOUT THE KIDS

10/30/2019

October flew by quick here at Maywood. We had our Halloweenapalooza field trip, continued developing our Dungeons & Dragons characters, made some scrunchies, and more!

A favorite here at !MPACT is to sit down with a group of friends, play a game, and of course have a DJ.

We will typically pull out a card game (like Snake Oil or UNO), then have students choosing songs they want to listen to. Here you can see Estella controlling the computer while Taylor writes down songs that other students call out, to be heard in order. This is one small way we are "All About The Kids" here at !MPACT. They get the freedom to be the whole room's DJ, while also jumping in on some card game action.

We are excited to see what November has in store for us!

Last Friday we had field trip to Beaver Lake Middle school, We also had a contest in a little known game called Gang Beasts. Mix WWE with hard to control play-dough people and this is what you get.So we had the best student from each of the schools compete in a heated battle in front of everyone.
