September 2019! - Sensory Studies
Our motto here at the Before and After School Program is, "It's All About The Kids". We strive to make this a fun and engaging place to come after school. Matt and I are always looking for cool new activities to try out with our group.
One activity we did this month was called Sensational Sensory Studies. We made, and played with a bunch of different sensory projects. We made oobleck, edible slime, and played with kinetic sand. The kids were able to feel, smell and even taste the projects they were participating in. For the record, the edible slime smells a lot better than it tastes. While this wasn't the cleanest activity, the group had a great time making their own oobleck with water and cornstartch. They got to mold kinetic sand and see what happens if you roll it into a ball but then let it sit still.
This was a really cool hands on activity, and it was great to see the group having a good time while also discreetly learning about non-Newtonian fluids. With the oobleck it looks like a liquid, but if you apply pressure it becomes more of a solid. The second you take that pressure away it goes back to being a liquid.
Stay tuned for the next "All About the Kids" Blog post in October!

I made a joke because we had extra watermelons and the boss said OK. it was extra fun. Summer is over though now and it has been raining a lot. I don't know if you know about the new(ish) craze around Pine Lake: the videogame known as gang beasts
The smashkiller. The kids don't even want to play anything else really. It's so good that unlike other video games its not a total boys club. I have also officially challenged the other impacts to a tournament culminating in a show match mid-October. Look forward to the results of that.
